Lilly S. Filler, MD


Dr. Lilly S. Filler grew up in Columbia, SC, graduating from AC Flora HS. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BS in Physical Therapy. She began work in New York City at the Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, NYU Medical Center, as a physical therapist and met her husband, Bruce, there. Dr. Filler earned a MS in Physical Therapy from Boston University, and taught physical therapy at Northeastern University for three years. In 1977, Lilly and her husband moved back to Columbia, SC and established the Columbia Rehabilitation Clinic. This was the first free-standing physical and rehabilitation therapy clinic in the Midlands.

Dr. Filler attended USC Medical School and completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1992, Dr. Filler founded the largest all-female OB/GYN office in Columbia, Women Physicians Associates, OB/GYN. She became active in medical politics, and was the first female Chief of Staff of Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, and was on the board and President of the Columbia Medical Society. She remains a committed advocate for all girls and women in the area of women's wellness and reproductive health.

Beside her medical societies, Dr. Filler enjoyed serving our community organizations, including Planned Parenthood Board, the Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy board and the SC Council of Women. She was honored as a "Woman of Distinction" by the Girl Scouts in 2003. Dr. Filler is active in Beth Shalom Synagogue, and has served as President and is on the Board of Directors. She has been honored by Beth Shalom Synagogue with the Magan David Award, and by Columbia Jewish Federation with the Distinguished Service Award.

One of her greatest passions is educating people of the Midlands and surrounding areas about the Holocaust. As a daughter of Holocaust Survivors, she chaired the Committee of the Holocaust Memorial in Memorial Park in Columbia and founded the Columbia Holocaust Education Commission, which she co-chairs.

Dr. Filler retired from medical practice in 2014. She is currently a guest lecturer at Columbia College, in Women's Health. The Fillers have 3 wonderful married children and 5 beautiful grandchildren.
