Dr. David Kulbersh practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Columbia from 1980 until his retirement from practice in 2012. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia. He completed OB/GYN residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He delivered over 4,000 babies during his career. He was proud to be an advocate for women and families rights in childbirth by being one of the first physicians in the area to encourage Lamaze childbirth preparation classes, allow fathers to attend caesarian sections, children to attend childbirth, and fathers to cut the umbilical cord. He was one of the first physicians to employ certified nurse midwives in his practice and was credited as the founder of the first hospital-based Doula program east of the Mississippi River at Lexington Medical Center.
He, currently, is the founder and director of Kulbersh Health Screening Services, LLC, a unique business with physicians under contract in all 50 states with the ability to order health screening services anywhere in the US for weight loss centers, Fortune 500 companies, and health screening web sites.
He has been active in many charitable, philanthropic, and professional organizations and currently serves on the boards of the Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Beth Shalom Foundation, and the Beth Shalom Synagogue. He is a past recipient of the Distinguished Community Service Award by the Columbia Jewish Federation, the Patient Choice Award, and the Compassionate Physician Award.
He and his wife of 45 years, Jane, share passions of travel and family. They have a daughter, Leslie, a civil rights attorney in Atlanta, a son, Jonathan, a facial plastic surgeon in Charlotte, and 4 grandchildren.
