Dr. Deborah Williamson is Associate Dean for Practice and an Associate Professor in the College of Nursing. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Duke University, her Master's in Nursing and Certificate in Nurse-Midwifery from the University of Utah, and a Doctoral Degree from the MUSC College of Health Professions in Administration and Leadership. Dr. Williamson has 27 years of experience as a practicing nurse-midwife in a private office setting in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Dr. Williamson has been awarded over two million dollars in grant funding to improve access to care for underserved women and children in Charleston County. Dr Williamson is the Director of the Hispanic Health Initiatives (HHI), an umbrella organization for multiple community-based programs that have been funded to serve the Hispanic community.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities in the MUSC College of Nursing, Dr. Williamson mentors students and junior faculty across the MUSC campus. She has been involved in numerous inter-professional activities and has been the recipient of local and regional awards for her community based work. Nationally, her work was recognized with her induction into the National Academies of Practice.
